Expression through Gifts

People usually engage in gift-giving during many occasions and certain situations. This is somehow an expression of different emotions like gratitude, love or even regret if asking for forgiveness. Gifts are already part of the culture of most individuals. It has been practiced by our ancestors and until now, we still continue to adopt this custom. People are generally unique and they usually have differences most especially in their preferences and wants. To ensure that the gift offered will not be put to waste and be of good use, it would be best to identify first the things that the person values. It may come in different forms depending on the type of person who will receive the gift. Gifts should also depend on the situation so that it will compliment with the occasion.

There are actually a lot of things to choose from in giving gifts and because of the numerous options, it becomes difficult to, immediately get into a decision. In our present situation, establishments usually offer customers with items that are complimentary to the occasion. Valentines Day, for example, department stores offer their customers with gifts such as the chocolates and red motif, heart-shaped items and accessories. They usually spare a corner that is filled with many items that can be bought for that certain occasion. Furthermore, during these occasions, the costs of the items that are in demand soar to the highest possible price that is why it is important to purchase items ahead of time to prevent spending too much.

Men and women have different interests so as the young and the old. People have different personalities and in deciding to look for something to give as a gift, these things are to be considered. Sporty individuals deserve gifts that they can use when they engage in sports. This may include athletic gears and game equipments. There are less expensive items that are available in the market that are of good quality. For individuals that love to read, obviously, books and journals are good choices. Just make sure that they haven’t read the book yet for them to be able to enjoy and use it. For those individuals that are into fashion, beautifully designed clothes, accessories and jewelries will make them feel pleased. For children, they usually love toys such as robots and cars for boys and stuff toys and miniature houses for girls. For adults, the gifts depend on personal interests of the recipient. Generally, the common choices are watches, shoes, clothes, perfumes for men. For women, they prefer jewelries, accessories, clothes and fragrances. Our parents are one of the treasures of our lives and during special occasions such as their birthdays or Mother’s Day and Father’s Day celebrations, it is very important for us to make them feel special through gifts from the heart. Treating them to a dinner in a restaurant would be a good idea. Others can also treat their parents to a vacation trip that will help them unwind and enjoy. A simple letter and wrapped gift items will surely be appreciated by our parents. For our special someone, a variety of flowers and chocolates in a romantic candlelight dinner date will surely make them fall in love again. Gifts can also be personalized depending on the artistic abilities of the individual. Some gifts are not bought but personally made and are greatly appreciated by most because of the thought that effort counts. Personalized gifts are more meaningful for some and less expensive. It also allows the person to express emotions through the application of skills in making creative items for special individuals in their lives.

In gift-giving, the amount usually doesn’t count, the thought does. Even if the gift is as simple as a letter or an item that is not very expensive, it will not matter. As long as the person values the gift, and it comes from the heart, it will surely be appreciated. Giving gifts is an opportunity to thank the ones we love and a time to re-establish broken relationships. It is therefore, important not to expect something in return because as a saying goes, “It is better to give than to receive.”
